The Athlete’s Guide to Yoga. I have been thinking for a while I should incorporate some Yoga into my routine.  Yoga has proven to help runners and other athletes perform better. I love the idea of a video to pop in on rest days. In this video ($27), yoga instructor, endurance athlete, and coach Sage Rountree and two of her pupils demonstrate three levels of modifications appropriate for athletes. Choose from 7 preset routines targeting different points in the training cycle and addressing specific problem areas, or arrange segments in any order to build a custom workout lasting anywhere from two minutes to two hours.

This USDA certified Organic mat cleaner is 100% all natural and non-toxic. It is made of tea tree extract and natural essential oil blends and it great to use to keep your mat clean and fresh. Small enough to travel with too, for times when using hotel gym mats..ew!

This is a great book ($15) from the folks at Women’s Health (one of my fave magazines!) that offers almost 500 pages of exercise for every body part, routines for a whole body work out, and nutrition tips.  Also included: 4 week diet/exercise plan to drop fat fast, a wedding workout, skinny jeans plan, and bikini workout.  And they have a version for guys too from Men’s Health.

Camelbak.The dog days of summer are upon us and it is HOT!  I love running outside during the summer but the heat can really get to you.  A good hands-free solution: a camelbak ($47)! This one has an air mesh channeled back panel and shoulder straps for enhanced ventilation as well as pockets to keep your other gear.

I truly believe that you are what you eat, and it is really important to put good wholesome food in your body  A perfect book ($17) for those of you with an interest in nutrition.  Goes into details about the pros of certain foods (for example- blueberries and antioxidants) and offers healthy meal suggestions.

Galloway’s Book on Running.  After a week of being on Galloway’s marathon training method of walk/run, I am sold.  I was originally pretty skeptical that this walking early on in long runs could make you faster (I do a run 3 minutes and walk 1) but it totally works!  And my muscles don’t get tired so I can run longer.  A great book ($13) for those who are looking to start running or training for a race. (hat tip Catherine)
